"The best way to respond to President Putin -
to show that Ukraine is a successful and flourishing European state that is
supported by the US," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined
in an interview with CNN during his working visit to Washington.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the
Government of Ukraine passed through "difficult and painful reforms":
"We want to make the country better. We want to improve our investment climate."
He called on US investors to come to Ukraine,
"US investors in Ukraine will be another protective shield. This is the way how to boost our economy and how
to make Ukraine a success story," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk welcomed the decision
of the US Government to send to Ukraine military in order to train the National
Guard of Ukraine and provide technical assistance in the form of electronic
equipment, "But we need more, mainly the defensive weapon to detain
Russia."
"Russia supplies terrorists with hundreds of
tanks, hundreds of guns, modern artillery, even SA-11, SA-15 and SA-22. More than 10,000 Russian military boots are on
the Ukraine’s soil. And, in addition, about 30,000 of Russia-led
terrorists trained by Russian FSB and Russian army," he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that President Putin
"is fighting not just with Ukraine, he is fighting with the entire free
world": "You have to understand that Russia is a threat to the US, EU
and world order."
The only solution for de-escalation of the
situation which is now on the agenda, he stressed – as of today – is the Minsk
agreements: "But in order to make this solution viable and to implement
the Minsk deal, we need to underpin the diplomatic efforts with the strong,
durable Ukrainian military."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the USA is
the leader of the free world, "the US is a country of real democracy, real
freedoms and liberties. So you are to defend the world, you are to protect the world, you
are to support Ukraine, as we stick to the same values and to the same ideas, as you
are."
He stressed the need to maintain unity between the
EU and US to "act boldly and wisely together against Russian
aggression": "It’s up to the free world to stop this Russia-led
aggression and to make Russia pay the price and obey international law and
order."
