"We want our European
friends and partners to be shareholders of the Ukrainian gas transportation
system. This will be the best answer to the energy independence of Ukraine and
the European Union," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed
during the Ukraine - EU summit in Kyiv on Monday, 27 April.
Such a step, according to him,
would create "a new quality energy policy in general in Europe":
"This will prevent any monopoly from influencing our common independent
policy and the right to determine for whom and how much to purchase and how to
transit gas within the rules and standards of the European Union."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded
that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had adopted a number of laws,
including those aimed at implementing the principles of the Third Energy
Package in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister also underlined that "it is difficult to mention
any country in the modern history of Europe and the world," that faced
such challenges as Ukraine currently: "Despite the fact that over the past
year Ukraine has lost 20% of its economy through Russian military aggression.
We believe that reforms should be supported by direct investment in the
Ukrainian economy."
