The Day of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred is a memorable day celebrated in Ukraine on February 20 in honor of the feat of the participants in the Revolution of Dignity and perpetuating the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
The memorial day was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on February 11, 2015 in order to perpetuate the great human, civil and national courage and selflessness, fortitude and resilience of citizens, thanks to which the course of the history of our state has changed, worthy of honoring the feat of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred who gave their lives during Revolutions of Dignity (November 2013 - February 2014), defending the ideals of democracy, upholding human rights and freedoms, the European future of Ukraine.
On this day in 2014, during the European Revolution, on Instytutska Street in Kiev, the security forces of the Yanukovych regime shot protesters. In just a day, there were up to a hundred victims, who were called the "Heavenly Hundred".
At 22:17, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution "On the condemnation of the use of violence that led to the death of civilians in Ukraine", a number of government officials announced their transition to the side of the people.
February 20 became a turning point in the course of the events of the Revolution of Dignity.
