Ruins of castles in Ukraine. Photo

Due to its rich history, many historic castles, fortresses and bastions have been preserved in Ukraine.

Many of them are in excellent condition and have been restored many times, while others have survived only in part due to the fighting of the past years and the destructive effects of time.

Olesky Castle in the Lviv region

The castle was built not later than the 14th century, which makes it the oldest in the Lviv region. A very atmospheric place with which the life of the famous Polish King Jan III Sobieski is connected.

The museum exhibits an impressive collection of three-dimensional wooden sculptures of the XIV-XIX centuries – the largest in Europe. There are works by Pinzel, Gutter, Kutenreiter, Markwat and Fessinger.
