Everyone who appeals to a court should be guaranteed the right to justice - Ukrainian President during the swear-in ceremony of new judges of the Constitutional Court

President Petro Poroshenko took part in a special plenary session of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, during which two newly elected judges of the Constitutional Court, Iryna Zavgorodnia and Oleg Pervomayskyi, took the oath.
"We all strive for the Constitution of Ukraine to be effective. The laws passed by the Parliament must comply with the Basic Law. The decisions of the courts applying these Laws should also protect the rights and freedoms of citizens in accordance with the Constitution and in accordance with the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Everyone who appeals to a court must have the right to justice. It is in this the purpose of those efforts and reforms that we are doing together," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

"And the task of the Constitutional Court, together with the Supreme Court, is to ensure proper protection of rights and observance of the guarantees for the Ukrainian citizens provided by the Constitution. This is a long, difficult but right way," the President emphasized.
The Head of State appealed to the judges of the Constitutional Court and reminded that the newly appointed judges have taken the oath within the walls of the Constitutional Court for the second time this year. "Now this is happening under a completely new procedure. The law introduced by me and supported by the Ukrainian Parliament provides for a transparent procedure of the competition and an unprecedented openness of the election of new judges of the Constitutional Court," Petro Poroshenko said.
According to him, last time two judges of the Constitutional Court elected under the presidential quota took the oath. "I am very happy because there is now a very constructive atmosphere in the Constitutional Court. And new judges proved themselves," the President noted.
The Head of State remarked that after long discussions, searching for compromises, the Verkhovna Rada managed to elect two new members of the Constitutional Court in its quota and congratulated the newly elected judges on such a high mission and high responsibility. "I congratulate the Constitutional Court, which for the first time since the Revolution of Good will have an opportunity to finally work in full," Petro Poroshenko said.
"As President, I have done everything and will do everything within the constitutional judicial reform to ensure the independence of the judicial system. Independence from politicians. It is great that for today the functions of the Verkhovna Rada on the appointment of judges were eliminated and the functions of the President are ceremonial," the Head of State emphasized.
"I am very happy that the level of material support today allows us to speak about the independence of judges of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court who started their work so well. And with their work, transparency, independence and impartiality, they demonstrated the fundamental changes that took place in the judiciary," Petro Poroshenko added.
The President thanked the High Qualification Commission of Judges, the High Council of Justice for the tremendous work aimed to ensure the implementation of the judicial reform as soon as possible, including the completion of the formation of the anticorruption court.
