The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has
launched an investigation into the activities of National Bank Governor Valeria
Gontareva and Managing Director of the Individual Deposits Guarantee Fund
(IDGF) Kostyantyn Vorushilin, according to the Prosecutor General's Aide
Vladyslav Kutsenko.
"Based on my report, the NABU launched an
investigation into the activities of Gontareva and Vorushilin!” he wrote on
Facebook, adding that criminal proceedings were launched under Article 365-2
Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to Kutsenko, his report raised the issue of fraudulent schemes with the assets of liquidated banks in the amount of about UAH 315.6 billion and the possible involvement of the National Bank governor and the managing director of the IDGF.
"This is about artificially lowering the value of the assets of 68 liquidated banks from UAH 415 billion to UAH 99.4 billion in order to sell those assets for a pittance to controlled entities, which in turn leads to disastrous consequences to the economy and to mass non-payment of debts to depositors of banks," said Kutsenko.
