Ukrainian President: Actions of Nadiya Savchenko are not for the benefit of Ukraine

President Petro Poroshenko informed that Ukrainians should expect the news about the liberation of hostages soon.
“I think you will hear really important initiatives in that context soon,” the Head of State said during the working trip to Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Answering the question of journalists regarding the participation of people’s deputy Nadiya Savchenko in negotiations with terrorists, the President emphasized that Ukraine was represented in the Trilateral Contact Group. “Political forces must be responsible for the actions of their people’s deputies,” he added.
“I am really sorry, because this person endured tremendous challenges. And I think such steps do not bring benefits either to her, or to Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
At the same time, the Head of State emphasized that Ukraine would make every effort to return hostages illegally retained in Russia or the occupied territories controlled by Russia back home. “And those who occupied territories must bear absolutely clear responsibility,” he concluded.
The President expressed gratefulness to Iryna Gerashchenko, his representative in the solution of humanitarian issues in eastern Ukraine who works in the Trilateral Contact Group, for persistent efforts aimed at bringing our hostages back home.
