It is now three years since hundreds of thousands of
Ukrainians gathered on Independence Square in Kiev to demand a better future
for their country. As they did so, they looked towards the European Union to
support them on their path back to stable democracy and lasting prosperity. As
President of the European Commission, I have made it one of my top priorities
to repay that faith. I am under no illusions about the challenges facing the
government in Kiev or the ordinary citizens around the country. The road to
reform and stability is a long and difficult one. But the scale and speed of
the change in Ukraine in the last three years eclipses the last 20 years put
together.
