Microsoft avoids £100m in UK tax

Microsoft, one of the world’s richest companies, has avoided up to £100m a year in UK corporation tax by booking billions of pounds of sales in Ireland under a confidential deal with the British tax authorities.

More than £8bn of revenues from computers and software bought by British customers has been sent to Ireland since 2011. The corporation tax rate in Ireland is 12.5%, compared with 20% in the UK.
