President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko
held a meeting with European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood
Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
The Head of State expressed gratitude to
the European Commission, President of the European Commission and European
Commissioner Johannes Hahn for proposing to the European Parliament and Council
of the European Union to establish the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.
“It is an important step towards
European aspirations of Ukrainians after the Revolution of Dignity,” the
President said and added that “today’s decision of the European Commission is a
recognition of reforms in Ukraine by the European partners”.
The Head of State emphasized that
“Ukraine considers today’s decision as a powerful stimulus for continuation of
reforms and counts on the support of the EU countries and European institutions
in the establishment of the visa-free regime and further integration of Ukraine
into the EU”.
The President is hopeful that the
European Parliament and Council of the European Union will approve respective
proposal on the establishment of the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the
EU already in the second half of 2016.
The Head of State is confident that
resolution of the political crisis in Ukraine, formation of new pro-European
coalition and Government open new opportunities for acceleration of reforms in
compliance with Ukraine’s obligations to the IMF, Association and DCFTA
Agreement, fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and efficient implementation of
the anti-corruption policy.
In his turn, Johannes Hahn called the
achievements of Ukraine in legislative amendments on the introduction of the visa-free
regime with the EU a “wonderful example of great cooperation between the
President, Government and Parliament”.
“All three institution have been closely
cooperating and achieved great results,” the European Commissioner stressed and
added that “such cooperation is essential for successful implementation of
reforms”.
Johannes Hahn congratulated Ukraine on
the resolution of the political crisis and assured of consistent support of the
EU for Ukraine on the track of democratic and pro-European transformations.
