Finance and Education Ministries secure donor support for pilot project on development of hub schools in Ukraine

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education have secured donor support for a pilot project on the development of hub schools in Ukraine. The Finance Ministry is grateful to its partners for their generous support of the project, namely, the U.S. Government, Western NIS Enterprise Fund, and Microsoft Ukraine. The latter has agreed to provide technical aid for equipping the hub schools. These efforts are designed to provide a high-quality education along with a proper technical base for children in Ukraine’s rural regions.

The Finance Ministry is actively working to increase the effectiveness of public spending and improve the quality of services for citizens, including education. Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education initiated the establishment of 24 pilot hub schools, by upgrading larger existing facilities to provide a better education experience for children living in smaller locales. Under this initial program, one hub school will be created in each region of Ukraine.
These schools will receive substantial investment in their development, including supplies and equipment. Also, energy-efficiency measures are planned, such as plastic windows and insulation. On September 1, 2016, the refurbished and enlarged schools will open their doors for children. The number of students in these schools is expected to increase by including children from neighbouring rural schools.
