Tuesday, April 5, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with the
Prime Minister (Grand Chancellor) of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta
Albrecht von Boeselager, who is paying a working visit to Ukraine for the
first time.
"Ukraine deeply appreciates the humanitarian mission, which is carried
out by the Sovereign Order of Malta in many countries of the world.
We treat with peculiar gratitude the support the Ukrainian citizens felt during
the Revolution of Dignity. It is of extreme importance the humanitarian
assistance rendered by members of the Sovereign Order to our citizens
who had to flee their homes as a result of the Russian aggression", said
Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Albrecht von Boeselager, who had arrived in Ukraine to commend the
fruitful cooperation of both parties for over two decades, assured the Head of
the Ukrainian Government of readiness to provide future assistance to our
citizens on a wide range of humanitarian needs: "Our role in the world is
first and foremost a humanitarian diplomacy, Ukraine can count on our support
and assistance."
During the meeting the interlocutors discussed a range of issues of further
cooperation, current projects and plans to develop the contractual legal basis
of the relations.
As is known, the Order of Malta (the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order
of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta) is known as one of the
oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. It is a lay
religious order of the Catholic Church, a subject of international law, has its
own Constitution, citizenship, and government institutions. The order has
diplomatic relations with over 100 states. Official relations with exchange of
ambassadors between Ukraine and the Order of Malta were established on 9
February 2008.
