The Invisible Consequences of War: Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress

  •

    • AMERICA HOUSE
    • Mykoly Pymonenka Street, 6, Kyiv, 04050, Ukraine
We invite you to attend a lecture and panel discussion on post-traumatic stress and the challenges Ukrainian soldiers face when returning to civilian life.

Nolan Peterson, a Ukraine-based American journalist and a former U.S. Air Force special operations pilot, will lead a panel discussion addressing the psychological effects of war and the current mental health treatment programs available to returning Ukrainian soldiers. We will also discuss lessons learned from the experiences of U.S. soldiers returning from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan.

    THE PANELISTS WILL INCLUDE:

    - Viktor Kovalenko, Ukrainian journalist and army veteran of the battle for Debaltseve.
    - Roman Torgivitsky, founder of Wounded Warrior Ukraine.
    - Ivona Kostyna, project manager of Sector V, a mental health rehabilitation program for returning veterans.
    - Nataliia Grytsun, Deputy Director of the Department for Social and Professional Adaptation and Psychological Rehabilitation, State Service of Ukraine for War Veterans and Participants of Anti-terrorist Operation.
We hope you will join us in a conversation about this sometimes emotionally charged and stigmatized topic. Left untreated, these conditions can affect relationships, careers, and make the transition back to normal life a difficult process.
We aim to give soldiers the peace of mind to seek help, and to give civilians a better understanding of what their friends and loved ones are going through when they come home from war.
There will be an opportunity for audience members to pose questions to the panelists.
Simultaneous English-Ukrainian translation will be provided.
    Don’t forget your ID (passport)!
