Government bill on Internet piracy and development of the film industry supported by Parliament

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading the draft law on state support of cinematography 3081-d. The project provides implementation of direct state support of the film industry following the example of European countries. Among other things, it is about the repayment of some expenditures incurred in the film production, film development and distribution networks, etc.
The document offers specific tools aimed at combating piracy on the Internet. If the proposed amendments are supported, copyright owners will be able to quickly block the illegal video content. It also establishes the liability for refusal to block illegal content, as well as unsubstantiated claims about its blocking.

"Project proponents consulted with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine on the copyright protection," noted Deputy Minister Yuliia Kovaliv and added: "The proposed mechanism of blocking illegal content has the potential to become an effective tool to combat Internet piracy."
Yuliia Kovaliv added Ministry's experts to be involved in the preparation of the bill for second reading.
