President Petro Poroshenko expects the law
enforcers to provide a report on the investigation into crimes against Maidan
next week. It was stated by him in the interview with Ukrainian TV channels.
The President particualrly mentioned beating of
students on November 30, beating of journalists and civil activists on December
1 on Bankova Street, assault of Maidan on December 11, events in Mariinsky Park
on February 18 and murder of activists.
"I have no doubt that the perpetrators of
every victim of Maidan must be brought to justice. We all have the right to
know," the President emphasized. He noted that he was not content with the
report on persons brought to justice.
The Head of State also highlighted the need for
punishing judges who had delivered illegal judgments against Maidan activists.
Sabotage of the Supreme Council of Justice formed by the previous government
hindered the dismissal of those judges and abolition of their immunity.
Petro Poroshenko reminded that he had submitted
Law on Fair Trial for consideration by the Parliament in December 2014, but the
Supreme Council of Justice had been formed only in June 2015, because the
discussion on the necessity of adopting the given Law had lasted 3 months and
the formation of the SCJ had lasted 3 months more. He also informed that the
Parliament and scientific institutions hadn't chosen their members of the SCJ
yet. This also hinders the adoption of decisions. "Judges cannot be
brought to justice without their votes. And even in this format, the newly
formed SCJ recommended the Parliament to bring 26 judges to liability,"
the President said.
The President also stands for trial in absentia
of Viktor Yanukovych and Vitaliy Zakharchenko who fled to Russia. "The
main answer is clear for all - Yanukovych and Zakharchenko bear criminal
liability - there is a testimony of them giving the orders," he added. The
Head of State emphasized that the public should know every murderer of the
Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
Petro Poroshenko urged the public to unite
efforts for bringing the perpetrators to justice.
