NBU blocks Russian payment system in Ukraine

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has suspended the work of the Russian Contact payment system in Ukraine by canceling the registration of agreements with its participants

The NBU went on such a step due to the decision of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to revoke the banking license of the Russian Slavic Bank, which was a party to Contact deals registered with the NBU.

It is also reported that the NBU received documents from the Rapida payment system, which intends to become a payment organization of Contact. However, the documents did not meet the requirements of Ukrainian legislation, therefore the regulator informed the company on October 23.

The Ukrainian legislation does not provide for registration of settlement centers. The NBU maintains a register of payment systems that can carry out activities in Ukraine only after registration by entering information in the register after the registration of the contract.
