Kyiv's Pechersk District Court
has ordered an arrest of cars and a house of former Ukrainian Justice Minister
Oleksandr Lavrynovych, based on four rulings issued by judge Svitlana Shaputko.
Thus, the rulings are related to
a black Land Rover Range Rover car, produced in 2010; a black Mercedes-Benz S
500L car, produced in 2010 and a white Peugeot 306 1.4 car, produced in 1996.
The house is also reported to have been seized but the address and other
details are not disclosed in the registry of court judgments, Ukrainska Pravda
wrote.
Investigator Alekhin asked the court to issue judgments ensuring the
confiscation of the suspect's property.
Lavrynovych is suspected of committing crime under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which
provides for applying mandatory additional penalty in the form of property
confiscation.
It is noted that the court reviewed an application without notifying the
owner of the property.
No technical devices were used to record the consideration of the
application by the investigating judge.
In addition, according to the notification, "neither the suspect,
nor the accused, or their defense counsel, the legal representative, other
owner or possessor of the property were present during the consideration of the
appeal regarding the seizure of the property."
"They have the right to file
a petition to repeal the seizure of the property as a whole or in part. Such a
request shall be considered by the investigating judge during a pre-trial
investigation and by the court during court proceedings," the notification
reads.
