Mustafa Dzhemilev, MP and a
Crimean Tatars’ leader, calls for President Poroshenko to consider
constitutional provisions of his people’s right to self-determination.
"At the constitutional
level, it is rational to confirm the right of the Crimean Tatar people to
self-determination, and Crimea should be granted the autonomous status only in
connection with the implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of
Crimea,” reads Dzhemilev’s letter to the president published on Facebook.
According to the Crimean Tatars’
leader exiled from Crimea by Russian occupation authorities, the work on determining the status of
the peninsula and of the Crimean Tatar people should be done “in consultations
with the Mejlis [the single highest executive-representative body of the
Crimean Tatars in period between sessions of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar
People].”
