May 9 will always be a red date in the Ukrainian calendar - the Day of Victory, Remembrance and Reconciliation

On the day of the 70th anniversary of Victory over Nazism in Europe, 500 servicemen of the separate military regiment of the President of Ukraine and the 101st separate guard brigade of the General Staff of the AFU took the military oath in the presence of the President, veterans and ATO warriors. The ceremony was held at the square in front of the National Museum of the Great Patriotic War.

The Head of State congratulated young warriors and veterans on the Victory Day. "May 9 will always be a red date in the Ukrainian calendar, just as these red poppies that symbolize the remembrance of the fallen," the President noted. According to the Head of State, "we will never celebrate this day under the Russian scenario again, because it provides for the cold-blooded use of the Victory Day for an apology to the expansionist policy regarding neighbors aimed at keeping them in the sphere of one's influence and restoration of empire".

Now, after the Revolution of Dignity and against the backdrop of Russian aggression, which has finally revealed the true strategy of our neighbors regarding Ukraine to the majority of Ukrainians, we will celebrate the Victory Day in our own Ukrainian coordinate system, as stated by the President.

The Head of State has informed on the initiation of a new tradition. On May 8, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation with all European countries at the state level for the first time. "For us not to forget the victims of that dreadful war, which killed over 50 million people all over the world, almost every fifth of which, unfortunately, was from Ukraine," the President said.

The President called the solemn session of the Parliament attended by both Red Army and UIA veterans one of the symbols of our reconciliation. "Do you know who united them? Their grandsons and great-grandsons - Ukrainian warriors that secure our state and defend it from Russian aggression. Just as their grandparents and great-grandparents defended their Homeland in World War II," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The President has underlined the contribution of the UIA to the Victory. "Under thes apparent central role of the Red Army, Ukrainian fronts and Soviet partisan associations, the second front against fascist invaders was opened by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The UIA have considered Ukraine as an independent state already then," Petro Poroshenko noted.

The President noted that at least six million Ukrainians who fought in the Red Army "before God and history are the main witnesses of blatant injustice of Moscow propagandistic myth that Russia would have allegedly won the war without Ukraine". "Even greater cynicism is to create the image of fascist state for our country. Clearly, this is done with only one goal - to substantiate and justify one's crime in the eyes of one's own people - namely Russian aggression against Ukraine," he said.

"We will always honor the feat of arms of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. We bow to all veterans - those present here, in this holy place, those who celebrate in other streets and squares of Ukraine.
