Ukraine's PGO ultimately refuses to extradite Saakashvili

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) has decided to refuse to extradite Mikheil Saakashvili to Georgia.

"As a follow-up of inspection, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine came to the conclusion that there was the risk of that the request to extradite Saakashvili had been made by the competent authorities of Georgia with the aim of political persecution. In addition, his extradition would be contrary to the requirements of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950," press office of the PGO reports.

It was noted that the request had been filed by the Main Prosecutor's Office of the Georgian Justice Ministry.

"The Prosecutor General's Office, as the central organ of Ukraine for the extradition of offenders, decided to refuse to extradite Saakashvili and informed the Georgian colleagues of the decision," the PGO press office notes.

As a reminder, February 13, President Poroshenko appointed Mikheil Saakashvili as a chairman of the International Council of Reforms at the President of Ukraine.
