Ukrainian Government endorses decree aimed at ensuring gender equality

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine endorsed a decree "On Approval of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the Recommendations set out in the Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in the eighth periodic report of Ukraine on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women until 2021".
The decree was developed to implement the concluding observations of the 66th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in the eighth periodic report of Ukraine on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women ratified by Ukraine on March 12, 1981.

The implementation of the document will allow to overcome all forms of discrimination against women and girls, reduce gender-based and domestic violence, prevent its manifestations and provide timely assistance to victims, expand women's economic opportunities, ensure equal access to justice and participation in decision-making in political and public life .
The above said document  will contribute to the improvement of the legal and regulatory framework in the area of combating and preventing discrimination against women and girls. It encapsulates training on women's rights and the inclusion of a gender component in educational standards for the training of professionals, as well as improving the mechanisms for the effectiveness of the investigation of cases of sexual violence and providing assistance to victims of women and girls.
"For the first time in the history Ukraine has adopted such a document. This shows that the incumbent Government is aware of the problem and  has a will to solve it. By  adoption of this decree we strengthen the institutional mechanisms for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, as well as improve instruments for ensuring the rights of women and girls from vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons, representatives of national minorities, persons with disabilities and elderly women", Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stated.
It is also planned to hold an awareness raising campaign on women's rights issues and improve statistical reporting in the field of women's rights protection.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its session has approved a decree that updates tasks of the National Plan of Action for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Women, Peace and Security. In general, the document has been updated until 2020.
