The Government will continue
to revitalize law enforcement system to protect the rights of citizens and
prevent crime. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
during a board meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on
Thursday.
"Our task is as follows:
an officer of the National police must be provided with everything necessary
for effective work, and must get an increased wage. This is our priority. The
Government will prolong steps to improve operation of the law enforcement
system in order to protect the rights of citizens and prevent committing
crimes, which, unfortunately, affect our lives", he said.
The Prime Minister reminded
that lately, together with Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov,
they had taken a decision to increase funding for the criminal investigation
department of the country – "to pay to each special agent who must
effectively counteract crimes and prevent their effect".
"Our current objective is
to ensure people feeling protected in the streets and in their homes",
said Volodymyr Groysman.
In this regard the Head of
Government stressed that the liberalization of law in
respect of persons commit serious crimes had led to releasing thousands of
convicts, who again commit grave crimes, such as: murder, rape, robbery.
The law enforcement system of
the country must respond clearly to these challenges, said Volodymyr Groysman.
For its part, the Government
considers it a priority to increase funding for special units and units to fight
crime.
"Most importantly, today
we have enhanced the work of the National police, relevant departments. All of
us have one task – we must ensure order in the streets of Ukraine, we must cope
with those challenges that exist today in the criminal world, those posing a
threat to the life and health of citizens of Ukraine", urged Volodymyr
Groysman.
Recent changes in the State
Budget for 2016 that were developed by the Government, approved by the National
Security and Defence Council of Ukraine and supported by the Parliament,
envisage for an increase by almost UAH 2 billion in funding of the law
enforcement system, internal affairs sector.
Relevant priorities also
constitute part of the draft Budget for 2017.
"The Government will
support the National police when you effectively fight crime. We will protect
each police officer, each of you, if you are on the side of law and order, and
protection of human rights”, stressed the Prime Minister. “We will protect you.
You defend the country - we protect you. And it
is the only way to return confidence."
