Ukrainian farmers had threshed 37.8 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous croups from 9.6 million hectares (ha), which is 99% of the target, by August 15, 2016, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service.

The average yield capacity is 3.94 tonnes per ha, the ministry said. Farmers harvested 26.4 million tonnes of wheat from 6.16 million ha (99% of the target), 9.8 million tonnes of barley from 2.86 million ha (99%), 373,000 tonnes of rye from 138,000 ha (97%), 481,000 tonnes of oats from 188,000 ha (90%). The yield of peas was 763,000 tonnes from 236,000 ha (99%). What is more, farmers threshed 1.1 million tonnes of winter rapeseeds from 434,000 ha (96%).

The highest yield capacity was recorded in Vinnytsia region (5.53 tonnes per ha), Khmelnytsky region (5.37 tonnes per ha), Cherkasy region (5.20 tonnes per ha), and Kyiv region (4.99 tonnes per ha). The ministry forecasts that the gross yield of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2016 is expected at 61 million tonnes.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture in August revised its forecast for the harvest of grain in Ukraine in the 2016-2017 marketing year (July 2016 through June 2017) upwards to 64.1 million tonnes, which was 4.5% up on the forecast it published in July. Last year Ukraine harvested 60.1 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, which was 5.8% down on a record high indicator registered in 2014 at 63.8 million tonnes, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, which did not include information from temporarily occupied territory in Crimea and Donbas.
