Prime Minister and Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski tackle top priority issues of the Ukraine-EU cooperation agenda

Thursday, August 25, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman met with Head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski on the eve of completion of his diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

The parties discussed acute issues on the agenda of Ukraine-EU cooperation and the Prime Minister underlined the priority of the introduction of a visa-free travel for the citizens of Ukraine. The Head of Government called on the European side to complete shortly relevant procedures for liberalization by the EU of the visa regime for Ukrainians.

Moreover, Volodymyr Groysman stressed the need to expedite the process of ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

Separately, the Prime Minister expressed a preference for the provision by EU of additional trade benefits for Ukraine, thus allowing the country to ensure the successful implementation of requirements of Trade and Trade-Related Matters of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. In this framework, Volodymyr Groysman noted that "wider access of Ukrainian goods to the EU market will have tangible positive impact on the Ukrainian economy and Ukrainian business as well".

The Prime Minister thanked Head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski for the "responsible mission", cooperation and support during this challenging time for the country, and wished him success in his new diplomatic position.

"I know for sure that in the person of Jan Tombinski, Ukraine has a great friend, and I believe that JanTombinski also has very good friends, partners in Ukraine”, said Volodymyr Groysman. “I believe that the next Ambassador will continue what was started, and we will only deepen our cooperation."

In turn, the Head of the European Union Delegation pledged the EU’s support for Ukraine, especially when the country is suffering from military aggression and threats to its territorial integrity.

"From the European side we see the Ukrainian battle as a more universal battle as it is the fight for freedom, democracy, sovereignty of not Ukraine alone. I am confident that the path – the European path that Ukraine has chosen - will reinforce the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state", summed up Jan Tombinski.
