Negotiations between Petro Poroshenko and Ilham Aliyev: Ukraine and Azerbaijan to increase cooperation in fuel and energy sphere; Odesa-Brody project to be restored

In the framework of the official visit to Azerbaijan, President Petro Poroshenko discussed prospects of cooperation in fuel and energy sphere with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The Head of State emphasized that the main attention had been paid to the involvement of resource potential of Azerbaijan and transit opportunities of Ukraine. In particular, the parties have discussed specific projects on the access for Azerbaijani investors to the Ukrainian fuel market. “We will comprehensively facilitate this access,” the President said. In his turn, Ilham Aliyev reminded that Azerbaijani state oil company Socar had already been operating in Ukraine. It has already invested USD 200 million and has over 60 petrol stations.

In the course of the negotiations, the parties have discussed common work aimed at supplying Azerbaijani energy resources to the EU in the most efficient and economically beneficial way.
The President of Azerbaijan informed that the parties had discussed the implementation of the Odesa-Brody project in details. “We have instructed to restore this project, because Azerbaijan supplies very large volumes of oil to the European market and is becoming a transit country for the states located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea. Thus, the restoration of this project creates good opportunities,” Ilham Aliyev emphasized. According to him, “triangle between the Caspian, Black and Baltic Sea” has a potential for cooperation.
