PM to business community in NYC: Mission of our Government - speed up reforms aimed at attraction of investments in Ukraine



The Government will make efforts to create favorable conditions for doing business in Ukraine and will support all who are willing to invest into Ukraine. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman stated this during a working lunch with representatives of business circles in New York City on Friday, June 17.


"We believe that our role, mission, function should be aimed at speeding up reforms in our country able to provide investment attraction, said Volodymyr Groysman, "Our work will be conducted in two directions: we will change the system that will create a favorable business climate. We are changing it now, but are ready to support all who are willing to invest today in Ukraine," he said.
The Prime Minister  pointed out that he personally is ready to bolster investment in Ukraine. So, soon an investment support office will be created under the Prime Minister.

Volodymyr Groysman said that Ukraine possesses a high potential for development, but the low standard of living does not match its capability. The situation can be changed through reforms and respective open, transparent governance, the Prime Minister noted.

"The reforms provide an opportunity to change the standard of living in our country, make the economy productive and social policy - effective," he pointed out.

The Prime Minister gave examples of promising sectors in Ukraine, among them: agriculture, IT industry, infrastructure and energy sector.

Volodymyr Groysman informed about the first steps undertaken by the Government towards reform, including the introduction of the market-based gas price, change of the system of governance, decentralization, start of the privatization of state enterprises, demonopolisation of pharmaceutical market, improvement of public procurement system, further deregulation and the elimination of regulatory bodies and the launch of Ukrainian customs reform.

Speaking about the progress in the fight against corruption, the Prime Minister noted that last year was formed comprehensive effective legislation to combat corruption. In particular, it was publicly appointed a head of Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and formed National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. In addition, electronic declaration of civil servants is expected to go live from August 15, he recalled.

Also in Ukraine it has been started reform of the judicial system after the adoption of constitutional amendments in the judicial sector, said Volodymyr Groysman.

The Government continues cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, the Prime Minister noted. According to him, in July we expect the IMF will make a decision to allocate the next tranche.
