In 2015, imports of gas from the European market more
than doubled from 5.0 to 10.3 bcm. Pursuing its diversification program
initiated in 2014, Naftogaz now imports gas from more than 10 suppliers.
In 2015, the import from the Russian Federation
decreased 2.4 times compared to 2014, from 14.5 to 6.1 bcm. As a result, the
share of Russian supplies in Ukraine’s gas consumption decreased from 34% in
2014 to 18% in 2015.
The past year also brought a significant increase in
imports by private traders and gas consumers from the European market. Naftogaz
share in imports from Europe decreased to the advantage of the private
importers. Last year, they imported 1.1 bcm of gas compared to 0.14 bcm in
2014, a 7.5 times increase. This change follows the introduction from 1 October
2015 of a new regulatory framework as well as other steps aimed at the creation
of an open and competitive gas market in Ukraine.
Diversification of gas supply sources remains one of
the key priorities for Naftogaz in 2016.
