On February 2, 2016 Pavlo
Klimkin, Foreign Minister of Ukraine held talks with Miroslav Lajčák,
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak
Republic, who is on a two-day working visit to Ukraine.
Minister Klimkin briefed his
counterpart on the latest developments in Donbas, results of yesterday's talks
in Berlin as well as Kyiv plans on de-occupation of Crimea.
Mr. Lajčák reiterated
full support of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine
by Bratislava.
Pavlo Klimkin expressed
gratitude to his Slovak counterpart for providing humanitarian assistance to
Ukraine - more than 40 000 euro for the needs of Ukrainian orphanages as well
as medical institutions of the city of Uzhgorod.
The two ministers also
discussed the prospects of further development of mutually beneficial
cooperation in the energy sector. M. Lajčák stressed on the common
interests and approaches, particularly concerning the «North Stream 2» project
- a purely political one, according to both parties.
Pavlo Klimkin thanked the
Slovak side for its active role within the Ukraine - Visegrad Group
format.
Special attention was also
paid to Slovakia’s EU presidency in the second half of this year.
