Ukrainian diplomats thank all member states for support of Ukraine, the Permanent Mission
of Ukraine to the United Nations said.
"We are ready to closely cooperate in ensuring global peace and
security," a mission representative said.
The UN Security Council consists of 15 members: five permanent with the
right to veto, and 10 non-permanent members.
The permanent members are France, the United Kingdom, the United States,
China and the Russian Federation, and non-permanent ones are Ukraine, Angola,
Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Ukraine is the legal successor of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist
Republic, which was a Founding Member of the UN.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine on October 15, 2015, was elected a
non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2016-2017.
Head of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN is Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary Volodymyr Yelchenko, has recently replaced Yuriy Sergeyev.
