In the interview with Ukrainian TV channels,
President Petro Poroshenko noted that Crimea is Ukrainian, and assured that he
would do everything possible to return the peninsula to Ukraine via international
legal, political and diplomatic means.
"For Putin, Crimea is a territory that must
be turned into a military base. For me, it is Ukrainian territory. Crimeans are
Ukrainians. I will do everything to return Crimea through international legal
mechanisms, judicial decisions and political and diplomatic means," Petro
Poroshenko said.
According to the President, "we must do
everything possible to defend the rights of Crimean Tatars". He reminded
that Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov had received greater opportunities to
struggle for the rights of Crimean Tatars after their election to the Ukrainian
Parliament. Also, Mustafa Dzhemilev was appointed Advisor to the President in
order to elaborate actions for the return of Crimea.
"We cannot allow cargoes to be delivered to
the peninsula without proper control," the President noted. That's why in
early November, he offered the Government to close customs checkpoints for
trucks.
Commenting on the issue of energy supply, the
President emphasized that an accident had occured resulting in significant
difficulties with energy supply for Kherson and Mykolaiv region. This has led
to a threat of technogenic disaster. The President addressed the Government to
establish an emergency regime because of the critical situation in coal supply.
"I think that the emergency supply on one line will be soon restored in
consultation with Crimean Tatars," the Head of State noted.
