President: Ukraine is an outpost of democracy in the east of Europe, just as Israel is an outpost of democracy in the Middle East

In his speech in the Knesset of Israel, the President emphasized that the aggression of Russia against Ukraine was the war not only for the territory, but also against freedom and democracy. “Russia has a huge territory. It is a war of ideologies. It is a war against freedom and democracy. And Ukraine defends them today. Ukrainians die for freedom and democracy fighting for the right of Ukraine to choose its own future. The future of Ukraine is the European choice and it is irreversible,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

Petro Poroshenko expressed confidence that the “people of Ukraine want to see their country among the European democracies, politically free, economically developed and socially successful states”. At the same time, he added that Ukrainians “do not forget that the European civilization, the civilization of the Bible should be grateful to strong Middle East roots for its appearance”.

“Today, Ukraine is an outpost of democracy in the east of Europe, just as Israel is an outpost of democracy in the Middle East. Just like Israel, Ukraine has a neighbor, which rejects our right to existence. Just like you, we strive for peace most of all. I believe in peace,” the President said.

Speaking of the aggression in Donbas, Petro Poroshenko noted that Russia was sending regular troops there and providing them with state-of-the-art weaponry certain types of which were developed and used only by Russia. “Kremlin’s regime sponsors terrorism not only in the area of conflict, but also in the rest of Ukraine,” the President emphasized.

The Head of State stressed that Russia was using such methods not only in Ukraine, but also in other regions of the world, particularly the Middle East. “Under the pretext of struggle against ISIS, Russian planes carry out bombing of moderate Syrian opposition forces. Innocent civilians whose life has been full of suffering for the last 4 years fall victims of this bombing,” Petro Poroshenko noted. He warned about the danger of imported Russian surface-to-air missile systems "S-400" that can significantly affect the balance of power in the region.
