Poland will support Ukraine on the track of European reforms – aftermath of the meeting between the two Presidents

Following the negotiations with President of Poland Andrzej Duda in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted that Poland was a reliable strategic partner for Ukraine. The President of Poland assured of the readiness to share the experience of reforms on the way to the EU with Ukraine.

The President noted that the visit of the Polish President took place after the parliamentary elections in Poland and formation of the new Polish Government. “Thus, we have all preconditions for the reload of bilateral relations. In this context, our agreement on the reload of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland is very important. We have set the agenda for the Committee and defined priorities in the sphere of economy, cultural cooperation, development of trust between our nations and establishment of new projects and initiatives regarding our strategic partnership,” Petro Poroshenko informed.

The President thanked for the Polish experience in the reform of decentralization. Poland is willing to provide assistance in the form of advisors that will work under the Ukrainian Government and local authorities. Ukrainian officials are also invited to Poland to exchange experience.

Also, the parties agreed on the support in the reformation of the Ukrainian tax and customs systems aimed at efficient struggle against corruption. “We agreed to implement a series of initiatives at the border: open joint checkpoints, invest money from the Polish loan in the amount of EUR 100 million in the development of infrastructure, exchange experience etc. I think these steps will lead us to substantial achievements,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State thanked Poland for the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen.

The parties agreed to elaborate new mechanisms for the enhancement of trade and economic cooperation, particularly after the launch of DCFTA on January 1, 2016. Poland will provide consultative assistance to the Ukrainian business and government, as well as help promote Ukrainian goods on the European market.


In his turn, the President of Poland expressed support for the process of reforms in Ukraine emphasizing the importance of decentralization, anti-corruption and judiciary reforms “for Ukraine to become a modern state that meet the EU standards”. “It is crucial for Ukraine’s advancement in the EU. Poland is ready to support Ukraine and share its experience in decentralization,” the President of Poland said.
