Following the negotiations with President of
Poland Andrzej Duda in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted that
Poland was a reliable strategic partner for Ukraine. The President of Poland
assured of the readiness to share the experience of reforms on the way to the
EU with Ukraine.
The President noted that the visit of the Polish
President took place after the parliamentary elections in Poland and formation
of the new Polish Government. “Thus, we have all preconditions for the reload
of bilateral relations. In this context, our agreement on the reload of the
Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland is very
important. We have set the agenda for the Committee and defined priorities in
the sphere of economy, cultural cooperation, development of trust between our
nations and establishment of new projects and initiatives regarding our
strategic partnership,” Petro Poroshenko informed.
The President thanked for the Polish experience
in the reform of decentralization. Poland is willing to provide assistance in
the form of advisors that will work under the Ukrainian Government and local
authorities. Ukrainian officials are also invited to Poland to exchange
experience.
Also, the parties agreed on the support in the
reformation of the Ukrainian tax and customs systems aimed at efficient
struggle against corruption. “We agreed to implement a series of initiatives at
the border: open joint checkpoints, invest money from the Polish loan in the
amount of EUR 100 million in the development of infrastructure, exchange
experience etc. I think these steps will lead us to substantial achievements,”
Petro Poroshenko said.
The Head of State thanked Poland for the
provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and rehabilitation of Ukrainian
servicemen.
The parties agreed to elaborate new mechanisms
for the enhancement of trade and economic cooperation, particularly after the
launch of DCFTA on January 1, 2016. Poland will provide consultative assistance
to the Ukrainian business and government, as well as help promote Ukrainian
goods on the European market.
In his turn, the President of Poland expressed
support for the process of reforms in Ukraine emphasizing the importance of
decentralization, anti-corruption and judiciary reforms “for Ukraine to become a
modern state that meet the EU standards”. “It is crucial for Ukraine’s
advancement in the EU. Poland is ready to support Ukraine and share its
experience in decentralization,” the President of Poland said.
