G7 Ambassadors and Nordic-Baltic Ambassadors support the efforts of the Government on the State Budget and amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine

On Monday, December 22, heads of diplomatic missions of G7 States (Britain, Italy, Canada, Germany, United States of America, France and Japan) made a public statement before the voting in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the key pieces of legislation, including 2016 State Budget and amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine.

 “We commend and fully support the efforts of the Government to achieve a workable deal that is in line with Ukraine’s reform commitments under its IMF program. Passing a fiscally sustainable budget is vital for Ukraine’s economic health and stability as well as the continuation of financial assistance from Ukraine’s international partners”, the statement reads.

The G7 Ambassadors call on the VR deputies to support the proposed legislative package: “The reforms to which Ukraine has committed in its IMF programme will be essential to restore economic stability and return Ukraine to a path to growth and prosperity. We call upon Rada Deputies to exercise their responsibilities carefully and not to jeopardise this programme”.

The statement of G7 was backed by Nordic-Baltic Ambassadors – representatives from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

“The 2016 State Budget as well as any changes to the tax code need to be fiscally sustainable and consistent with Ukraine’s commitments to the International Monetary Fund,” the document reads.

The statement contains also that Ukraine’s Government draft State Budget “fulfills these important prerequisites”.

“We call on all Ukrainian political forces to unite around a responsible economic policy that will restore economic stability and create conditions for growth”, the statement of the Ambassadors of Nordic and Baltic States reads.
