Ukraine, Germany sign cooperation protocol in development field

Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius and Director General of development cooperation worldwide at Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Andreas Gies have signed an intergovernmental protocol on cooperation in the field of development.

"As coordinators of international aid, we will facilitate expeditious disbursement of funds for development in the social sphere," Abromavicius said.

The minister also stressed that under the protocol Ukraine expects to receive EUR 136 million, of which EUR 88 million will be provided for the implementation of financial cooperation projects, and the remaining EUR 48 million will be spent on technical assistance.

According to Gies, the financial assistance provided by Germany will be aimed at implementing more than 20 social development programs.

"Germany shows solidarity with Ukraine in economic and humanitarian ways," he stressed.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the governments of Ukraine and Germany signed an agreement to set up a Ukrainian-German Chamber of Commerce to be headquartered in Kyiv. The signing ceremony took place on October 23 in the framework of the Ukrainian-German Business Forum with the participation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
