U.S. permits duty free imports of cake, inactive gas, elements of locomotives from Ukraine

On October 1, 2015 Ukrainian exporters were re-permitted to supply three goods groups without paying duties: cake and other remainders of oil from sunflower seeds (23063000 foreign trade code), inactive gases, apart from argon (28042900 code), elements of railway locomotives or motor wagons of trams or rolling stock (86071903 code), the Economic Development and Trade Ministry has reported.

The ministry said that this became possible after the White House decided to return the above-mentioned goods groups of Ukrainian exports under Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the Office of the United States Trade Representative reported on September 30.

"This step allows for potentially increasing exports of Ukrainian goods to the U.S. and provides additional competitive advantages to Ukrainian products," Deputy Ukrainian Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister and Trade Representative Natalia Mykolska said.

The ministry said that in 2014, the U.S. imported the above-mentioned Ukrainian goods worth over $37 million and the duties exceeded $800,000.
This policy will remain in effect until the end of 2017, the ministry said.
