"We should, finally, complete the judicial
reform, the reform of prosecution, establish the State Investigation Bureau to
ensure that our entire law-enforcement system and justice system is similar to
our new Ukrainian police. This implies another attitude, new standards and
respect for the law and citizens of the country", said Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk after a swearing in ceremony for the new patrol
police officers in Lviv on Sunday, August 23.
The Head of Government stressed that police is
one of the elements demonstrating the process of upgrading the entire law
enforcement system of the state: "These young people need support,
including the judiciary and prosecutorial systems, investigative agencies, and
the Security Service. They are the basis to build the security of citizens on,
but such security should be based on the rule of law".
"The tasks to complete the overall reform
of the law enforcement system, judicial system and procuracyauthorities
are for us to fulfill as a parliamentary coalition, and together with us - the
President of Ukraine", said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
According to him, further steps "are
crucial to build an integrated security system in the country, the justice
system, which should be different".
The Prime Minister noted that Lviv is
the second city after Kyiv, in which a new Ukrainian police appeared in the
streets: "The day after tomorrow Odessa will launch patrolling by the new
Ukrainian police. After that -Kharkiv, Mykolayiv. And I think by
the end of year we will take a decision to launch a new Ukrainian police in
other cities of the country."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk explained the experience
gained in the work of the new Ukrainian police proves that it really works:
"The citizens realized it would be different from what had been before.
One should abide by law, not to violate traffic rules, respect the police
officer. Just as the policeman respects, protects and serves such a citizen of
his country."
