"Ukrainians have to defend our Europeanness at a high price. Ukraine has finally got an army capable of stopping the aggressor," President Poroshenko saidin the Kherson State Maritime Academy during the working visit to Kherson region.
The Head of State noted that the new Ukrainian army could be seen during the military parade on the 27th anniversary of our independence. "And I was convinced yesterday in Donbas, during the exercises where the naval forces rebuffed the assault of a conditional enemy using armored vehicles, F-planes, bombers, assault helicopters, marines, National Guard and border guards. They have shown a very high professionalism. And also yesterday in Shyrokyne, 650 meters from the enemy’s positions, where the marines of Ukraine hold the line and repel the aggressor," he said.
The Head of State especially emphasized that the Ukrainian Army liberated most of the territory of Donbas, which was occupied in the spring of 2014; localized the conflict and is the key to returning Donbas to Ukraine and Ukraine to Donbas by political and diplomatic means.
"This is so important, because tomorrow we will celebrate the Day of the Defender of Ukraine. It has ceased to be a holiday for boys only on a gender basis. 55 thousand girls are now serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Availing myself of this opportunity, I want to congratulate all the defenders of the Homeland who firmly hold weapons in their hands," Petro Poroshenko said.
“Combat capable army is one of the important factors that allows us to pursue a genuine sovereign policy, a policy of independence, to have immunity from any outside pressure. And defend against the fifth column within the state," the President added.
"The Army is a key element of the state's creation. Strong, mighty, patriotic," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
