Ukraine to petition ECHR to render verdicts concerning illegal sentencing of Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens by Russian court

"The Government of Ukraine has taken a decision to send the fourth claim to the European Court of Human Rights against the Russian Federation. This lawsuit is "Ukraine against Russia", which includes facts of violation of the right to justice of Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens, who were unlawfully convicted by the Russian court", declared Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk during a Government meeting on Wednesday, August 26.

"Ukraine urges to immediately accept this claim and bring the Russian Federation to trial for violation of international law," stressed the Head of Government.

He emphasized that this fourth lawsuit was to be sent by the Justice Ministry to the European Court of Human Rights against the Russian Federation, following today's decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Prime Minister called yesterday's verdict for Oleh Sentsov and Olexandr Kolchenko "an anti-human decision of the so-called Russian flaunty "court": "It's far from justice - it is a political reprisal against Ukrainian citizens".

"This political revenge will not be left without attention of the international community, as the entire global community has condemned the illegal and inhuman sentencing of Ukrainian citizens", he highlighted.
