Fake local elections under way in Russian-occupied Donbas

Fake local elections are under way in Russian-occupied Donbas, eastern Ukraine. "Polling stations" there opened at 08:00 local time on November 11, 2018, media outlets controlled by the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" ("DPR") and "Luhansk People's Republic" ("LPR") have reported.

In particular, there are 408 "polling stations" in "DPR"-controlled districts and 316 stations in "LPR"-controlled areas. As UNIAN reported earlier, the occupying authorities are holding "local elections" on November 11 to elect "DPR" and "LPR" heads, as well as "members of parliament."

The international community and Ukraine condemn the "elections" and deem this voting unlawful and illegal. The SBU Security Service of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings over the November 11 "elections" in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
