Ukrainian President signed amendments to the Customs Code aimed at supporting and developing domestic shipbuilding

President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law "On Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine on Preserving and Developing the National Shipbuilding Industry" during the visit to "Nibulon" LLC in Mykolaiv. "I wish fair winds and following seas to the Ukrainian shipbuilding," the Head of State said, signing the document.
"Every effort must be made to provide legislative protection for the Ukrainian industry, in particular Ukrainian shipbuilding," the President said.

The Head of State also noted that he had an experience of shipbuilding, since he headed the shipyard. According to him, the legislative norm established 365 days for import and processing of imported goods at shipbuilding enterprises on preferential terms. It allowed to import into Ukraine the necessary components, taking into account the innovative nature of shipbuilding, a long cycle of development and construction, high capital intensity of products, in order not to freeze the working capital of Ukrainian producers.
"Shipbuilders appealed to me with a request and arguments that this period of 365 days is insufficient. Given the cycle of production, the shipbuilders don’t have enough time to produce the necessary products. I made a decision, initiated with the Parliament the necessary bill, it was adopted and today I sign the law supporting shipbuilding industry of Ukraine," Petro Poroshenko said.
The law, in particular, increases the maximum total term of duty-free import of products up to 730 days for their processing in the customs territory of Ukraine. This will create additional opportunities for the development of domestic shipbuilding and ship repair industry, increase its competitiveness in the foreign market. It is expected that the law will promote the development of Ukrainian water transport, shipbuilding and ship repair industry, and create new workforce as a result of an increase in the number of shipbuilding and ship repair orders.
