Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has filed an appeal against a court ruling in a dispute with Gazprom under which the Ukrainian national energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy was obliged to return a certain amount of gas to the trader RosUkrEnergo (RUE), the office said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office filed an appeal on July 31 against a Kyiv Economic Court ruling of July 23, 2015, which turned down a prosecutorial lawsuit in the interests of the state represented by the Ukrainian Cabinet of ministers against Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom, seeking the invalidation of purchase-and-sale contracts for natural gas signed in Moscow in 2009," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office believes the contracts signed in Moscow in 2009 were fictitious.
The filing of an appeal suspends the Kyiv Economic Court ruling's entry from effect.
